Police Background Checks

Welcome to the Brantford Police Service online process for people needing a police record check for volunteer, student, or employment purposes. This system allows you to apply for a police record check 24 hours a day without having to attend our facility. All aspects of the process - including verification of your identification, fee payment and receipt of your record check results - are managed electronically. If there are no concerns or follow-up required, your record check documents will be available by secure download through your online account.

If you require a record check for any other reason such as: Visa, Border Crossing or Foreign Travel please contact the Brantford Fingerprinting Services, located at 10-340 Henry St., Brantford, ON or The Commissionaires (Hamilton office), located at 151 York Blvd., Suite 208, Hamilton, ON to obtain a fingerprint based Certified Criminal Record Check.

Please note, to get a Police Record Check completed you must be a resident of the City of Brantford. You can verify by using your Home Property Taxes, paid to the City of Brantford and/or your home address must be policed by the Brantford Police Service. If you are unsure if you live in the City of Brantford, please contact us prior to applying at 519-756-0113, extension 3339 for verification. Once an applicant has submitted a request for a police record check, we will be unable to process the check, and NO REFUND will be provided.

You cannot apply on behalf of another person. The questions used to verify who you are will be created from the information in your credit file. Questions are timed to ensure a prompt response and to enhance security and privacy. It is a criminal offence to apply for a record check on behalf of another person.

This process is intended for persons living and working in Canada. If you are living/working outside Canada, you should obtain a police check from the RCMP through the submission of fingerprints. Click here for details.

Please note, youth under the age of 18 can now submit their record checks online. However, this MUST be for a government agency (government funding not included). If you are under the age of 18 and apply for a non-government agency your record check will be denied and no refunds will be given (legislation prohibits us from completing checks for youth under the age of 18 for non government agencies).

Please be aware of these requirements before creating an account. If you fail to authenticate your ID, you will be provided with alternative options.

There are three levels of record checks available. The type of position you are applying for will determine which type of check you will require. In all cases, you should consult with the agency, organization or employer that requires you to obtain a record check to determine which one is needed.

Persons requiring a record check for the purposes of a Non-Parental Custody application cannot use this online screening process. The non-parent applicant must attend the Brantford Police Service for this police record check. A police record check is current as of the date it is completed. It is your employer/prospective employer or organization's function to determine if the record check is current enough to be accepted for the position applied for. The Brantford Police Service shall have no responsibility or obligation to make such a determination.

Incomplete applications (i.e. no identification provided, authentication aborted / failed / not completed or further information requested) will remain in the processing queue for no more than ninety (90) days from the time of initial application. Fees are non-refundable and incomplete applications will be considered 'abandoned’ and removed from the processing queue after ninety (90) days.

The Brantford Police Service will return the results to the applicant only. We will not provide the results to a third-party organization or employer under any circumstances.
